20/20 in Hindsight

Apr 09

As the internet is all abuzz about the IFB Cult as a result of ABC’s 20/20 Episode, I thought I’d add a couple thoughts and share a couple links.
It is tragic when abuse of any kind happens to anyone, especially when done by men to women and children. Jesus specifically said of those who offend one of the “little ones” that it “were better for millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.” (Matthew 18:6). We are moved with a sadness and desire for justice when we hear of these accounts from business, families, politicians, and teachers. This is even more tragic when abuse is in the infrastructure of a religious organization. Virtually every religion and denomination in American history has had accounts of sexual abuse from men who, while spiritual leaders, act to fulfill their fallen nature that is universal and total in depravity.
With that said, we shouldn’t be surprised,
that the mainstream media would take a fringe group of extremists and paint thousands of churches and individuals with a single brush.  The media regularly uses the same tactics in the political realm in attempt to quiet opposing voices (i.e. the Tea Party, political conservatives, etc.). Here are two links that give a little more data on the specific situations mentioned in the episode.
